Network performance and capacity testing

Network monitoring provides a common source of information for both client & provider – a neutral ground to talk about service level agreements, network performance and capacity issues. Everyone gets to see the same version of the truth, seeing performance, SLA adherence and any issues. The transparency provided produces a win-win scenario for all.

Enterprises today need to understand the systems that support their applications – the past history, the situation now and how it affects the future IT plans.

Making informed decisions when budgeting, planning, or dealing with problems in this area depends on having the complete picture: a full understanding of how your network is performing in terms of Utilisation, Health, and Availability.

Network Monitor - powered by Net Evidence - was designed from the ground up to meet the needs of target audiences of Financial Director, Purchasing Director, Customer Service Director, IT Director, Technical Director and Network Management Level being engaged. Network performance monitoring provides intuitive visibility in an easy-to-understand, graphical format. Experience shows that Network Monitor is used and appreciated from Board level to Engineering, for understanding issues ranging  from Video Streaming monitoring services, through to VOIP and 'top-talker' greedy network user problems.

Instant understanding

SV-Network Monitor uses intuitive colour ranges; from ‘cool and safe’ to ‘hot and concerning’. Blue and green denote low levels of utilisation, good availability and health. Red denotes problems, poor health and high levels of utilisation. The display is instantly familiar to anyone who has used Amazon, EBay, Google or Yahoo, using a “Microsoft style” Windows Explorer, Toolbars and clear buttons.

Executive performance

SV-Network Monitor is a web-based network performance testing tool providing intuitive, real time reports and dashboard for both the network and applications. It is a vendor and carrier agnostic tool, which securely collects information using an open standard protocol, SNMP, and is viewed from a browser. The architecture in place can be extended to securely collect data from existing network devices and multi-networks, including MPLS, xDSL, Dedicated IP etc

Single sign-on for multi-network coverage

Any SNMP MIB-II enabled IP device, regardless of location can be monitored with SV-Network Monitor, making visibility across multiple networks integrated into the same display. SV-Network Monitor’s use on MPLS networks is market-leading, showing every Class of Service, including delay information. Network Monitor supports rate-adaptive DSL-Max services and is application aware, using Cisco’s NBAR capabilities & IPSLA technologies for multi-type testing to multiple sites.

Alerting

Next generation alerting, summarising exceptions in meaningful bulletins. All SV-Network Monitor users can set-up Observers (on-line buddies) to watch performance, based on their own preferences, and receive graphical emails & rapidly review online.

Simplified management recommendations

SV-Network Monitor provides easy to understand information in a common format for comparison and the evidence of how infrastructure is performing. SV-Network Monitor uses statistics held within existing network routers & devices as it rapidly deploys without installing probes or software.

Performance for a wider audience

The complexity of “engineering management” tools makes extending their usage beyond a technical audience extremely difficult. Geographically diverse management teams, Service Delivery & Support all benefit from Meeting Point Invitations which facilitate sharing within and between organisations. Users capture the exact SV-Network Monitor view of interest and can email an invitation for others to login to the portal and review the situation.

Real-time combination display

SV-Network Monitor uses colour-based understanding and a mosaic of information per network link which enables anyone to instantly understand overall network performance – how current traffic levels relate to trends, impact the health, causing variation in response times and what applications constitute the usage makeup. SV-Network Monitor collects data every 3 minutes and displays immediately for real-time network performance, but the time navigator gives day, week and month visibility without any data smoothing for instant comparisons.

The image on the right displays a screen-shot of the SV-Network Monitor which is created from SNMP statistics. The Health panel shows the CPU utilisation graphically, to that the single-mosaic display lets you see how the utilisation varies dependent on the traffic trends and health issues (Line errors, discards and Queue delay). Monthly availability percentage is automatically calculated and if any outages or periods of non-contactability occur, they are itemised showing date, start-time and duration in minutes.
