| SciVisum Sponsors BarCamp Canterbury |
|
Canterbury, UK – 30 March 2011: SciVisum is proud to be a sponsor of BarCamp Canterbury 2011. Deri Jones (CEO) and David Hobson (Web Testing Technician) will be presenting at the event, and other members of the SciVisum technical team will be on hand during the day. BarCamp Canterbury is an unconference that is a completely free to attend and based loosely around the theme of: innovative, unusual, and amusing examples of information and technology. Being a Canterbury based company, with strong links to the Universities and keen proponents of world-class software development processes using the best open-source tools, the event was a perfect fit. ScivVisum has provided both internships and industrial year placements for Canterbury students, as well as offering opportunities for graduates and PhDs to be involved in our Research and Development Team. Speaking at the event on behalf of SciVisum will be: Dave Hobson, Web Testing Technician, who will presenting a session called 'There's no way that can possibly go wrong Dave has PHd in electronic engineering from the University of Kent, a degree in software development from the University of Huddersfield, and a great deal of experience in web development. He has lived in Canterbury for six years, although from manchester originally. Dave is running the Great Manchester 10k run on 15th of May, so any sponsors welcome! Deri Jones, CEO, will be making two presentations: The Geek's Tale: The Story Of How To Set Up And Manage Hi Tech Businesses, and, Collision Course: Where User Experience And Technology Meet BarCamp Canterbury is a technology conference with a difference. It's more like a gathering of enthusiastic people that are into tech, gadgets, science, or just about anything else that's geeky and fun. There will be plenty of entertaining sessions and workshops on the day, and when sessions aren't running, there's usually other fun stuff happening: food and drink, games, conversation, silliness, and people hacking on projects. You can go to any session you like, and if you don't find a session interesting, you can leave and go to another. There is very little in the way of a formalised programme for the event and sessions will be finalised on the day. More information about how this works and how you can register to present will be released nearer the time. The organisers are encouraging people to get in contact with us now about potential presentations, workshops, talks, or demonstrations they would like to give or they would like to hear. BarCamp presentatiosn are as formal or informal as tyhe presenters choose. Everyone is encouraged to give a session or participate in whatever way they can (asking questions, blogging, tweeting, taking photos). There are no spectators, only participants!
