How to get started with SciVisum’s Load Testing

Take the stress out of load testing with a fully managed service

As a fully managed service SV-Load takes the strain from your technical team, delivering powerful testing beyond the reach of self-service or DIY solutions. Our service uniquely creates a real world load model, based on a mixture of end-to-end user journeys. We script dynamic journeys that make choices from page content as real users would – exposing all bottlenecks and performance issues. We’ve outlined the key stages below to show you just how easy it is to get started with SciVisum’s Load Testing.

“We particularly like the project management and proactive support provided by SciVisum. Having a fully managed service enabled us to focus on completing site development while SciVisum took care of the load testing.”

The SV-Load setup process is simple and logical

Step 1 – Simple setup

We establish key contacts within your business, discuss project aims and proposed user journey specifications as well as estimated timetables, scale and targets. With access to the target test site our load test engineer will identify areas of key functionality as the basis for each journey.

Our team analyse historical user traffic to verify that the selected areas are suitable for incorporation into the test model.

Our preparation is detailed and thorough

Step 2 – Real world preparation

We design your load test model to match real-world page targets and metrics such as user journey times and conversion rates. The number of journeys and mix of journeys will be finalised at this stage as well as drop-off ratios. We’ll prepare a technical project plan in conjunction with your technical experts.

Our technical team create the required dynamic user journeys making intelligent choices from page content just like real users. We also run comprehensive pre-test checks at an agreed time. These checks ensure that the target site is fully functional, users are behaving as intended and the load model is accurate.

We manage load testing for actionable results

Step 3 – Realistic Load testing

SciVisum specialists execute the main load test and monitor and analyse the results in real-time. We’ll do this in conjunction with your own technical experts where appropriate.

We send a summary of the results immediately after the test, detailing whether the test targets have been met, as well as the peak throughput measured and initial insight into the performance issues encountered.

We’ll deliver a detailed report for discussion

Step 4 – Actionable reporting & recommendations

The final report will contain a breakdown of key performance metrics such as delivery times and errors encountered by users. It will also include the tester’s analysis and recommendations, tailored to your specific project requirements and stakeholders. We can include internal server monitoring to help pinpoint performance bottlenecks. We deliver the report to specified contacts and invite and encourage discussion on any of the points covered.

You may want to consider a monitoring trial using the load test user journeys, especially during a post-test release or peak trading period. Your SciVisum account manager can arrange this.
